Refurbishment of storage tank with double floating roof

Voith Industrial Services is awarded the contract for refurbishment of an existing storage tank at Statoil Refinery in Kalundborg, Denmark. The tank has a diameter of 50 meters and a height of 15 meters. Statoil wants to extend the lifetime and modify the tank to newest standard.
The refurbishment includes services such as the construction of a new double deck floating roof and the establishment of a complete new bottom. Also new shell courses will be installed by jack up method and a new fire extinguishing system will be implemented. After the refurbishment the tank will be 20 meters high. The construction of a double floating roof reduces the emission of gasses from the tank.

“The project involves about 20.000 man-hours as well as project organization. The project starts right away and the tank is to be back in service in December 2015”, says Gert Nielsen, CEO at Voith Industrial Services AS, Denmark.

Voith Industrial Services can draw on the experiences and know-how of years of cooperation with Statoil in Denmark like the refurbishment of a similar tank in 2013 and other services provided at the refinery in Kalundborg since the 70s.
Jan Sickmann, Member of the Board of Voith Industrial Services and CEO of the Division Energy-Petro-Chemicals: “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to prove once more our capabilities at a Statoil Refinery. As a qualified and acknowledged partner in constructing, maintaining and reconstructing storage tanks, we want to expand and develop our service portfolio in Central Europe and in Qatar.”
