Voith Industrial Services Performs Complete Electrical Installation Work for New Edeka Supermarket in Gaimersheim

  • Entire electrical installation work completed in 4.5 months
  • Long-standing relationship
  • Roughly 7,500 hours worked
The Voith Industrial Services team in Gaimersheim carries out the complete electrical installation work for the EDEKA E Center supermarket in Gaimersheim. The supermarket with a selling area of about 3,000 square meters opened in April 2016.

The industrial services provider was responsible for basic electrical installation work, wiring of the fire alarm system, burglar alarm system, instrumentation and control system and video as well as the installation and supply of the lighting and the network system.

In the EDEKA supermarket, Voith Industrial Services laid approx. 110 kilometers of cable for all electrical installations. For this, the team in the control cabinet manufacture department at the Ingolstadt site built a low voltage main distribution board and 12 sub distribution boards, installed them in the supermarket and commissioned them. Safety is a crucial factor here and an important aspect of the work. For example, the team completely designed and constructed the emergency lighting system (including the central battery source), installed and commissioned it. Installing and performing measurements on the lightning protection system was also part of the job. For the other safety installations, the industrial services provider additionally took care of the cable support systems and the wiring.

Hence, the industrial services provider plays an important role in the opening of a supermarket because it is not only a matter of laying out the electrical installation correctly but, in the end, also a matter of safety (for employees and customers) and reliability (and thus cost effectiveness) of the installation. Over a period of four and a half months, a team consisting of twelve to twenty employees worked about 7,500 hours in total to complete the electrical installation work in time for the opening.

What made the job particularly challenging was the fact that because of the tight construction deadline all trades were at the site at the same time – from the floor installer to the ceiling installer. In cases like this, coordination and short-term planning of the individual activities as well as consultation between the different trades are crucial for successful performance.

Wilhelm Sander, Facility Manager Data Systems at Voith Industrial Services in Gaimersheim: “We have been working with EDEKA for many years and have repeatedly been able to help our customer at short notice. We were therefore particularly happy to be awarded this contract and to show once more that we can provide the required capacity even in the short term. Since Edeka continues to grow and plans new projects in Ingolstadt, we hope that we will be considered in future tenders.”
