Motek and SPS IPC Drives 2015: wear-free CLDP servo drive from Voith as an alternative to the electromechanical spindle

Voith is showcasing their CLDP servo drive (closed loop differential pump) at Motek in Stuttgart (5 to 8 October 2015) and SPS IPC Drives in Nuremberg (24 to 26 November 2015). It combines the benefits of electromechanical drives with the benefits of hydraulics, thus enabling high energy efficiency and power density with virtually wear-free operation. Voith will present the CLDP on the booth (Motek: hall 8, booth 8305, SPS IPC Drives: hall 3, booth 205) in live operation to interested visitors.

The CLDP servo drive can be used for all direct linear motions, especially when dynamic response, reproducibility and reliability are needed. In addition to the energy savings, operators will be attracted in particular by increases in productivity and longer lifetime. Compared to an electromechanical spindle, the CLDP provides higher operational reliability due to its automatic overload protection. Thanks to the wear-free operation, only minimal maintenance and repair work is necessary with a service interval of 3 years. The servo drive covers a power range of up to 10 kN and speeds of up to 1,000 mm/s. Power and position control are simple and precise.

The servo drive is compact and comes in three different standard designs; linear, orthogonal and parallel. It only requires an electrical power connection and a data interface for the servo motor, making it very simple to integrate into new or existing systems.

The CLDP design is simple. It is based on an integrated servo pump consisting of a servo motor and internal gear pump. The motion of the servo motor is directly linked to the cylinder movement. The speed and rotation of the servo motor thus determine the cylinder's speed and direction of motion. This makes it possible to directly implement a wide variety of speed and travel profiles. The self-contained compact drive operates in a closed circuit. Typical hydraulic elements, such as the unit, valves, piping and tubing, are no longer required.

By measuring current operating states and diagnosing the individual components and the entire system, it also creates ideal conditions for integration within the framework of the Internet of Things.
