Offshore Oil and Gas

Maximum power and safety for offshore platforms:

Typically, six or eight of these pivotable jet propellers (also called thrusters) with outputs of up to 8 000 kW, are used for the dynamic positioning of drilling platforms, which allows the extraction of raw materials even in water depths of over 3 000 meters.

In order to position drilling vessels and semi-submersible platforms in offshore operations safely against currents, wind and wave forces, Voith Turbo Marine has revived a project from the 1970s and worked on the further development of the Voith Radial Propeller.
