Bevel gear KE-type with one stage, axle mounted

Longitudinal drive

The electric motor or turbo transmission is located outside the bogie beneath the railcar body. The motor's shaft is at a right angle to the wheelset's shaft. A cardan shaft transmits power to the bevel gear stage. The bevel gears transmit power at an angle of 90°. The cardan shaft compensates for the relative motion between the final drive and electric motor or turbo transmission.

Transversal drive

The motor is located in the bogie. The motor's shaft is parallel to the wheelset's shaft. Motor and transmission are housed in the same case. The output pinion is mounted directly on the motor's shaft. It meshes with the large helical output gear. There is no coupling element between the input (motor) and output (wheelset).

The cardan shaft compensates for the relative motion between the final drive and electric motor or turbo transmission.

Transversal drive

The motor is located in the bogie. The motor's shaft is parallel to the wheelset's shaft. A bow-tooth coupling transmits power to the helical gears of the helical gear stage. This stage compensates for the relative motion between the bogie and the wheelset's shaft.
