Raleigh, N.C. / York, Pa. (August 30, 2018) – Voith opened a new automation research and development center at the company’s Digital Campus in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The new R&D team will support customers in the North American market with software solutions and technical expertise, and is focused on developing software products that meet international industrial hardware standards.

For its first products, the team is creating software to operate hydropower products, which will allow the use of digital controls and modular solutions for automation. Using a high-level, uniform programming language, these software products will be available off the shelf, which is intended to maximize each product’s utility and allow the software to run independent of hardware-specific instructions. Another expected benefit of the software is that the customer can purchase the software product once, install it on a preferred platform and migrate as needed to additional devices or as the customer performs system upgrades.

“I am very pleased that we are promoting the integration of Automation and IT in Voith by co-locating this Global R&D team in Raleigh with the existing Platform Team,” said Dr. Teemu Tunkelo, Digital Solutions Chief Technology Officer. “We expect that customers in North America will be the early adopters of Industry 4.0, and it is important that our global R&D team is represented in this market.”
