Federal Minister of Transport Dr. Peter Ramsauer Visits Voith Exhibition Stand at InnoTrans in Berlin

Voith Turbo Executive Vice President Dr. Norbert Klapper welcomed the Federal Minister of Transport Dr. Peter Ramsauer at InnoTrans in Berlin on 18 September 2012. At the international key exhibition for rail transport technology, Voith is showing products and installations around the motto: "Experience How You Get Ahead!" Ramsauer used his visit to the stand of Voith to inform himself about the range of products and technologies for rail vehicles.

The Federal Minister of Transport was astonished about Voith's tradition in rail safety, which goes back for more than 100 years. "Couplers from Voith Turbo Scharfenberg are still a guarantor for safety," explained Dr. Norbert Klapper, Executive Vice President of the Voith Turbo Division Rail.

He also pointed out to the highly prominent, nearly four-meter high exhibit of a Galea rail head. These rail heads, made from fiber composite materials, are collision-safe. They stand for maximum safety and, apart from meeting all requirements on collision protection, also comply with the latest fire protection, anti-noise and heat insulation standards.

Klapper also presented the new, highly fuel-efficient Voith inline sixcylinder engine with SteamTrac waste heat recuperation.

Waste heat from the engine that used to remain unused is converted into additional drive energy for the vehicle via a piston expander. This results in higher outputs, while fuel consumption and thus CO2 emissions are reduced.

The SteamTrac system can be used for all combustion engines. The first rail vehicle with a SteamTrac is in service on the Kaiserstuhl Railway in Baden-Württemberg. The first SteamTrac in a biogas plant operates in Baden-Württemberg's Ostalb region, while the first SteamTrac on a push boat can be found on the Rhine.

Voith Turbo, the specialist for hydrodynamic drive, coupling and braking systems for road, rail and industrial applications, as well as for ship propulsion systems, is a Group Division of Voith GmbH.

Voith sets standards in the markets energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials and transportation & automotive. Founded in 1867, Voith employs almost 40 000 people, generates €5.6 billion in sales, operates in about 50 countries around the world and is today one of the biggest family-owned companies in Europe.
