Turbo Transmissions for Railcars

Over a Thousand in Service.

Turbo Transmissions. Moves the World.

The T 211 re.4 railcar transmission has now become the best-selling unit of its kind in the world in the performance class up to 350 kW. It thus sets the standard in this class. Primarily, because it is so reliable. You will also find our hydrodynamic transmissions being used successfully in higher performance classes as well. For instance, the T 212 with its 450 kW rating is the general-purpose transmission found in diesel railcars. In applications of up to 650 kW, the power of the T 312 transmission offers convincing performance.

T 211 re.4 turbo transmission  – Champion of the rails

100 – 160 km/h
350 kW maximum transmission input power

With 6 000 units sold, the world's best-selling railcar transmission: the T 211 re.4 turbo transmission

The T 211 re.4 has been updated for use with the new generation of 6-cylinder diesel engines: With a transmission input power rating of 350 kW. And with the new Voith Turbo Drive Control (VTDC). It is mounted directly to the transmission and logs operating data. In addition, it now features a monitoring and diagnostics function. Optionally available: the hydrodynamic brake that can be integrated (blended) into the vehicle's braking system.

T 212 bre turbo transmission  – Over a thousand in service

up to 180 km/h
450 kW maximum transmission input power

Powers railcars at up to 180 km/h in single and multiple traction. Maximum transmission input power 450 kW: the T 212 bre turbo transmission

The T 212 bre features an integrated retarder. It is ideal for high-speed railcars with underfloor design that achieve maximum speeds of up to 200 km/h in single and multiple traction. Preferably for drives in underfloor arrangements. Power takeoff optional.

T 312 bre turbo transmission  - Universal transmission

160 – 220 km/h
650 kW maximum transmission input power

State-of-the-art for transmission input power of up to 650 kW. 3-speed transmission with hydrodynamic torque converter, two fluid couplings, integrated retarder and mechanical reversing unit: the T 312 bre turbo transmission

The high efficiency and input power of up to 650 kW make the T 312 bre a state-of-the-art transmission for high-speed railcars that achieve speeds up to 220 km/h. It excels with its smooth, almost wear-free starting. Automatic and stepless adaptation of the tractive effort to the prevailing rolling resistance. The transmission is insensitive to vibrations as well as thermal and mechanical overloads. Especially convincing: its service life of over 1.2 million kilometers until the first major overhaul – depending on service conditions.

DIWARail hydromechanical transmission – The model for minimal wear around the world

80 – 140 km
320 kW maximum transmission input power

More than 4 000 hydromechanical transmissions sold. Flexibly applicable: The DIWA Rail with parallel shaft reversing transmission

Originally at home in city buses, the DIWA Rail is now the best-selling hydromechanical transmission in the 320-kW Class. The contra-rotating differential converter acting as a brake reduce wear significantly. Use of a power-splitting principle (via differential converter in 1st gear, and mechanically up to 4th gear), makes the DIWA Rail ideal for economical operation of rail vehicles with optimized consumption figures. The current version also allows towing while the engine is switched off.

State-Of-The-Art Control and Diagnostic Systems

Electronic control systems must rapidly transmit operational data and diagnostic information via data networks. They communicate with the vehicle bus. They support the user with carefully analyzed operating, monitoring, and diagnostic concepts as well as standardized communication protocols. Their configuration tools link various components in an easy and simple manner.
