The increasing need for raw materials places continuously growing demands on conveying capacity in mining. With double the power transmission capability in the same installation space, the Voith TurboBelt TPXL family of couplings is specifically designed to meet the requirements of belt conveyor drives.

Thanks to the proven hydrodynamics, the TurboBelt TPXL couplings provide smooth and wear-free power transmission. Its compact design makes it easy to install the hydrodynamic coupling to the driveline. The integrated intelligent controller with open communication capabilities leads to optimized coupling and conveyor performance in every operating mode. By providing the ideal torque limitation, the controller protects the belt from overload. Rugged, robust and compact, the TurboBelt TPXL couplings are engineered to the highest standards for greater availability and reliable operation.

The quality of control during the starting process is a key factor for belt-protecting operation. The TurboBelt TPXL couplings provide a convincing solution with precise, easy-to-control speed and torque transmission. With multi motor operation, several TurboBelt TPXL couplings are connected through the TurboBelt DriveControl system in a network manner. The simple integration into the main PLC ensures the condition monitoring of the system together with an option for remote access.

TurboBelt 780 TPXL

TurboBelt 780 TPXL is a powerful, fill-controlled fluid coupling for six- or eight-pole aysnchronous motors used in belt conveyor drives. Thanks to its innovative XL blade wheel shape, the coupling transfers 100% more power than standard couplings of the same size. This increases the productivity of the belt conveyor.

Its compact design allows easy installation, a significant advantage in the case of mobile belt conveyors. This lets you quickly install the coupling and ensures simple drive operation.

The TurboBelt 780 TPXL provides a convincing solution with a precise, easy-to-control torque transmission. Even fully laden belt conveyors are given a smooth start-up. This increases the service life of your belt and all drive components.

Operating principle of the hydrodynamic power transmission

Hydrodynamic couplings transmit mech­anical power from the motor to the driven machine via a flow of fluid. This occurs by means of two bladed wheels positioned face to face. The primary wheel (red) is connected with the motor and acts like a rotary pump, the sec­ond­ary wheel (blue) is connected to the driven machine and acts like a turbine. Power transmission is pro­por­tional to the fill level in the working circuit. As a result of the mechanical separation of the drive and driven sides, the hydro­dynamic couplings transfer the power wear-free and dampen the torsional vibration and torque shocks in the drive chain at the same time.

Fill-controlled couplings

With fill-controlled couplings, a control device continuously changes the transmission behaviour. This is carried out by changing the filling level and is made possible by controlling the flow of the operating fluid supply and draining using valves or a fill pump.

Fill-controlled couplings have an external fluid circuit which is also used for cooling. This means that these couplings have a very high heat capacity permitting long drive processes with high loads. This increases the productivity and reliability of your equipment.

When starting, fill-controlled couplings are completely empty thus enabling a load-free motor run-up. This relieves and protects the motor and electric network.

Innovative XL profile

The TurboBelt couplings have an innovative wheel profile, the so-called XL profile. Voith engineers developed this profile with the latest CFD simulation. Drawing on many years of experience and know-how, they managed to get more operating media into the working circuit of the coupling. This leads to a higher power transmission with the same installation space.
