Application Engineer - RAIL - NA920

Area of Employment

  • Ability to travel both internationally and nationally. The first year 50% of the assignment time will be located in Germany. Travel after the first year is expected between 25% to 35%.
  • Directly liaison between engineering teams in Germany and York for sales, project management and customer contact in the North American market,Present technical proposals to customers.
  • Develop and deliver engineering/sales presentations and respond to technical questions regarding the organization’s products or systems . Participate at trade show exhibits, conferences and sales meeting with clients -
  • Liaise with product engineering to ensure that products and services are modified, configured, and according to customer needs and specifications. Liaise with the organization’s sales department
  • Prepare technical proposals in a manner, that they serve as a basis for the technical and commercial success of projects and that they can be handed over to the organization’s project management
  • Provide support to the sales organization to ensure a smooth transition of projects from the sales stage to the execution stage, Develop and manage project scope, cost, schedule, & quality from an engineering standpoint.


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in engineering, 5+ years of experience in product or application engineering, ideally in the railway industry
  • Proficient working knowledge of computer systems, including AutoCAD (or equivalent) ideally Siemens PLM NX/Teamcenter, and Microsoft Office software.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems, Familiarity with methods of testing and validation for safety relevant products, Ability to read and interpret complex technical specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to communicate with customers and team members from other countries, Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain successful customer relations
  • Ability to work independently and with proper organizational skills, Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing
  • Ability to communicate proficiently with production and design engineers, Ability to reach agreements through compromise, creative approaches and persistence

Analyze customers technical specs & needs to develop technical proposals outlining how Voith's products & services can meet needs. Define integration & implementation of Voith equipment into customer’s systems & equipment. Provide input in design & development of equipment & systems, redesign of existing systems to fulfill customer needs. Support project management with technical issues related to design reviews & localization. Work in conjunction with design departments in Germany to manage technical execution of projects in NA. Work closely with engineers in Germany & other Voith locations.
