Faridabad, India. Voith Turbo has opened a service center for the overhauling of rail products in Faridabad, India. This is part of its intensified effort to capitalize on the emerging opportunities offered by the accelerating construction of metro rail projects in India.

This new service center located near Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which operates the rapid transit system serving Delhi and its satellite cities, the service center will act as a hub for Voith Turbo to serve northern India’s metro rail aftermarket. It will be a one-stop shop meeting the service requirements of Voith and non-Voith equipment, including final drives and couplers in metro applications.

The opening of the service center comes as India steps up metro network construction in order to meet the growing demand resulting from the nation’s rapid urbanization. The Indian government has approved plans to build metro networks in 33 cities. Voith Turbo is a major global supplier of gear units and components to metro operators, including India’s DMRC.

“India’s dazzling economic growth, coupled with the accelerating urbanization, is unleashing opportunities for the construction of metro rails and the introduction of faster and reliable transport systems,” said Kuntal Dasgupta, Managing Director of Voith Turbo India. “As a specialist in intelligent drive solutions, systems and comprehensive services, Voith Turbo has played a role in the expansion of commuter rail systems in India. With the opening of our new service center, we are committed to further enhancing our service offerings for the metro rail aftermarket in India and contributing to the nation’s urbanization and transportation.”

Voith Turbo, which entered the Indian market in 1987, currently operates two manufacturing facilities and an engineering center in Hyderabad, which has been complemented by the newly launched service center in Faridabad, enabling it to deliver one-stop services to customers in India’s industrial, rail, commercial vehicles and marine sectors.

The Faridabad service center now focuses primarily on the overhauling of rail couplers, gear boxes and final drives. In the future its capabilities will extend to gangway support, wheel sets, motors and generators.
