Voith Modernizes Turbines for Norway's Largest Energy Supplier Statkraft

HEIDENHEIM. Voith will modernize six turbines for Norway's largest energy supplier Statkraft in four different Norwegian hydropower stations. The recently signed contract has a volume of about ten million Euro.
Within the framework of the contract Voith will be modernizing the turbines in the power stations Oevre Roessaaga, Nedre Roessaaga, Baatsvatn and Vessingfoss. The plants, which were installed between 1955 and 1975, will receive six new Francis turbines and in future generate up to ten percent more output.

"The order in Norway is an important success for Voith", says Dr. Roland Münch, President and CEO of Voith Hydro. "With Statkraft as our customer we have been cooperating excellently in Europe's leading hydropower market." Statkraft is the largest energy supplier in Norway and one of the major producers of electricity from hydropower in Europe. In Norway alone, Statkraft operates more than 140 hydropower stations and plans to modernize many of its older plants over the next few years.

Norway is the sixth largest hydroelectricity producer in the world. 99 percent of the country's electricity is generated from hydropower. Since the country has had a long tradition in producing energy from hydropower, many of the ageing plants will have to be successively modernized. At the same time, Norway's expansion potential for power stations remains undiminished.
