Water weight measurement by Voith: safe and precise

OnQ FormingSens from Voith measures the water weight in the former continuously, precisely and reliably with high-frequency microwave technology. The dry content derived from these measurements is an important parameter for the ideal operation of the former.
OnQ FormingSens allows a continuous and safe water weight measurement in the former.
Measurements with conventional portable measuring instruments are usually only recorded sporadically. However, the factors that influence the process in the former – such as the performance of the vacuum elements or the condition of forming fabrics – are constantly changing. Therefore, the water weight is continuously subject to fluctuations. Thanks to the real-time data delivered by OnQ FormingSens, these fluctuations can be recorded and the process can permanently be improved for an increased runability.

Adjustments of the vacuum settings of the dewatering elements can be made based on the newly obtained information which results in energy savings. Moreover, there is a clear advantage for work safety: the machine personnel is not exposed to any danger with an online measurement. In addition, the complicated handling of radioactive sources that most conventional hand-held measuring instruments work with is omitted.

OnQ FormingSens can be used for all basis weights and former types. It does not damage the fabric, nor does it leave marks in the paper. Using OnQ FormingSens together with the forming fabrics of the I Series from Voith, the best possible results in paper production can be achieved.
