Belgian Bus Operators Rely on DIWA.6 Transmissions

Less Fuel Consumption, Lower Operating Costs

At Busworld in Kortrijk, Belgium, bus and coach manufacturers are presenting their new Euro 6-vehicles from 18 October 2013. Two major Belgian bus operators have already decided in favor of the new vehicle generation. Both VVM-De Lijn (Vlaamse Vervoersmaatschappij) and SRWT (Société Régionale Wallonne du Transport) opted for economy and efficiency as the main criteria of their new procurements. The new DIWA.6 automatic transmission from Voith has been installed in 306 vehicles of the above operators.
The new busses of the operator VVM-De Lijn are fitted with DIWA.6 automatic transmissions from Voith.
Reducing fuel consumption and consequently cutting down on operating costs - these two aspects have highest priority for bus operators. This also applies to VVM-De Lijn and SRWT. Even in the past the Belgian bus companies have relied on the Voith DIWA transmission for a large percentage of their vehicles. SRWT alone ordered over 500 buses with DIWA transmissions over the last five years. The fact that both operators equip their new vehicles with DIWA.6 demonstrates once again: this transmission is not only optimally adapted to Euro 6 but also ensures economical operation.

Compared to the predecessor model, the new DIWA.6 transmission with the topography-dependent gear-shifting program SensoTop can save another five percent fuel, which reduces operating costs and also cuts down on CO2 emissions.

306 Euro 6-Vehicles with DIWA.6 by Van Hool and IvecoBus
SRWT, who operates in the Wallonian part of Belgium, opted for 119 Van Hool A330 with Cummins ISB engines. 27 Van Hool AG300 with DAF TRX engines, as well as 160 IvecoBus Crossway LE with Cursor 9 engines will in future be in service on the city and regional routes of VVMde Lijn and thus operate in the Flemish part of the country.

High demands are made on the robustness of the vehicles, as they are kept in service with the operators for up to 15 years. In view of this long service life, the fast and competent service provided by the local Voith subsidiary is a major contributor to economic and efficient vehicle operation. With the modular program DIWA Excellence, Voith offers a customer-oriented service and consultancy program for operators, which extends across the entire life cycle of the transmission. Apart from targeted measures aimed at optimized fuel consumption, the program also covers solutions for preventive maintenance, in order to avoid downtimes and ensure high availability.
