Heidenheim/Stuttgart. The Brazilian rail vehicle manufacturer, Bom Sinal, places its trust in the competence of Voith Engineering Services. The interdisciplinary engineering company's Competence Center for rail and road vehicles in Chemnitz is developing bogies and motor bogies for the Brazilian company's two, three and four-part diesel railcars.

"This is our first order from Brazil", announces Frank Salzwedel, the CTO Voith Engineering Services, with pleasure. "In addition to the key rail vehicle markets in Europe and China we have now succeeded in gaining a foothold in the growing Latin American market." 

Due to the two upcoming major sporting events, the FIFA World Cup Brazil™ in 2014 and the 2016 Summer Olympics , Brazil is currently investing heavily in its rail infrastructure with a particular focus on passenger transport. Bom Sinal is one of Brazil's few local rail technology manufacturers and is upgrading its diesel railcars to improve their reliability and service life while also reducing the maintenance costs. 

Voith's engineers in Chemnitz have utilized the existing units as the basis for the bogie development. "The project scope includes the design engineering, the static and dynamic validation of the chassis strength, the multi-body simulation to simulate the vehicle behavior during operation, along with the creation of construction drawings and test specifications as well as on-site production support", explains Matthias Büttner, the Project Manager at Voith Engineering Services. The development project has a tight schedule and shall be completed by the end of 2013. 

Brazil is one of the most important and promising markets for Voith. The company has been operating in the markets of energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials and transport & automotive for years now. Next year, the company is going to celebrate its 50th anniversary in Brazil.
