High Productivity, Low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): Automobile Manufacturer Puts Faith in Highly Flexible Couplings from Voith

The automobile manufacturer Daimler has put its faith in Voith to provide highly flexible couplings for its engine test rigs for over 30 years. Manufacturers and operators have increasingly high expectations regarding the productivity of engine test rigs – they should have high reliability and minimal downtimes while having a low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) at the same time. The highly flexible couplings from Voith were developed specifically to meet these requirements: They boost the lifetime and availability of all test rig components and thereby increase the productivity of the test rig.
The K and D couplings from Voith have been used successfully in engine test rigs for decades, helping to increase the lifetime and availability of all test rig components.
In perfecting drivelines that are subject to torsional vibrations, Voith Turbo HighFlex has over 35 years experience: customers worldwide are supplied with couplings and coupling shafts individually tailored to their motor. With speeds of up to 10,000 rpm, these are especially suited to test rigs used to test internal combustion engines. The couplings are deployed between the engine and dynamometer and have a high torsional elasticity as well as a high torque capacity of 180 to 10,000 Nm. They are therefore suited to a wide range of engines. Research and development test rigs, endurance test rigs and end-of-line test rigs function safely and reliably with the D and K couplings from Voith. D couplings are specially designed for small engines (one to three cylinders), while large engines (three cylinders and above) work best with the K Couplings.

The highly flexible couplings do not just have a very long lifetime. Due to their integrated elastomers, the couplings shift critical natural frequencies in the driveline below the operating speed. At the same time, the alternating torques of the engines resulting from the combustion processes are damped. This protects all system components from critical vibrations and increases the lifetime and availability of the entire test rig.

Customers worldwide value Voith's years of experience and service know-how. Torsional vibration calculation and measurement, and lifetime analysis of the entire driveline complete the coupling and coupling shaft portfolio.
