Voith Receives Order for High-volume Production of CFRP Components for Future Audi Model

  • Major order for high-volume production of CFRP components
  • State-of-the-art technology developed in collaboration with Audi
  • Milestone in the development of Voith's composite business
Heidenheim/Garching. Audi AG has placed an order with Voith for the high-volume production of a CFRP component for a future Audi model. Voith and Audi will jointly prepare the manufacturing ramp-up for the CFRP component.

The order is one more important step in developing the industrialization of composite production. Voith founded Voith Composites GmbH & Co. KG in Garching in 2010 as a development and production company for carbon fiber products within the Voith Group. In 2011, the first exclusively composites development and production center in the Voith Group was opened at Voith's Garching site.

A development partnership was established with Audi also in 2011. The goal of this partnership is to promote the further development and highly automated production of fiber-reinforced materials for use in future Audi production models. The outcome of the partnership is highly-efficient and consequently cost-effective production technology. The order, which has now been received, will continue the successful work of this partnership in the form of a series-produced product.

“The order awarded for the high-volume production of a CFRP component is the outcome of the good cooperation and trust between Audi and Voith over the last five years,” explains Dr. Hubert Lienhard, Voith President and CEO. “We have come a long way in the field of the industrialization of production processes using carbon fibers. The order from Audi is an important step in the further development of this future-oriented business.”

Voith sets standards in the markets energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials and transport & automotive. Founded in 1867, Voith employs more than 39,000 people, generates € 5.3 billion in sales, operates in about 50 countries around the world and is today one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe.
