"Voith Coupling Technologies – Quality that Connects" – METEC: Voith solutions for increased operational reliability and lower operating costs

At METEC, the leading international metallurgical trade fair, visitors to the Voith stand (Hall 5, Stand C02) from the 16 to 20 June in Düsseldorf will see how operational reliability in the steel industry can be increased, and operating costs decreased, using state-of-the-art technologies. Under the motto "Voith Coupling Technologies – Quality that Connects," Voith will present high-performance universal joint shafts and couplings for this industry.
Voith CH series joints using a newly designed internal bearing ring.
Open Voith CT-P coupling for roller conveyor drives or pilger rolling mills.
Voith SafeSet and AutoSet coupling – the ideal Driveline Protection.
RT Universal Joint Shafts – For High-Speed Drives
The R Series universal joint shafts with a joint rotation diameter of 198 mm to 550 mm are the best solution for high-speed drives with average torque requirements. Thanks to FEM optimization, the use of high-strength tempered and case-hardened steels, and center sections with large profile diameters, operational reliability is increased still further, while weight is also reduced. At the same time, the bending and torsion rigidity is increased. As a result, the universal joint shaft operates very efficiently, reducing the risk of resonant vibrations.

CH Joints – Static Loading Increased by 18 Percent
The CH Series joints are suitable for the main drives in rolling mills. A feature of these are the bearing units in cassette design. This design consists of a radial bearing outer ring and a bearing inner ring with integrated axial bearing unit. It has been possible to increase the static loading capability by up to 18 percent using a special assembly of the rolling elements. In addition, the cassette design means it is no longer necessary to change the journal cross when replacing the bearing.

E Universal Joint Shafts – Maximum Torque, Long Lifetime
The Voith E Series universal joint shafts are suitable for drives with the highest torques and used for the most demanding requirements (up to 13 620 kNm with a single load or 9 380 kNm under continuous load). They excel with the maximum torque capacity and a long lifetime. E universal joint shafts can be equipped either with an E joint at both ends or, as an alternative, they can be combined with CH joints. High-performance universal joint shafts of the E type are, for example, used in rolling mills that are under extremely high loads. They are available for joint rotation diameters ranging from 580 mm to 1,220 mm.

CT-P Coupling – Maintenance-Free, Flexible and Cost-Effective
Voith's highly flexible CT-P couplings are completely lubrication- and maintenance-free, which saves operators costs over the life cycle of a unit. Furthermore, a CT-P coupling usually has a longer lifetime than the other drive components, thanks to the completely different, underlying physical concept that Voith used. The integrated rubber elements prevent metal-to-metal contact. At the same time, they dampen the forces of inertia occurring when drives are accelerated and decelerated. One other advantage is that silicone elements can be used if needed, allowing the CT-P coupling to resist heat up to an ambient temperature of 130 degrees Celsius.

SafeSet and AutoSet Coupling - the Ideal Driveline Protection
Rolling mill operators are particularly aware of the consequences of overloads. The SafeSet coupling from Voith, is installed between motor and joint shaft as a torque limiting device. In the event of an overload, the coupling immediately separates the driveline and protects the joint shaft, the sensitive roll necks and other gearbox components.

AutoSet is a torque limiting coupling with a slip function and automatic reset to enhance performance. AutoSet reduces high torque peaks by slipping up to 180 degrees without releasing. If the torque peak has a longer duration the AutoSet will release entirely and limit the torque. It is completely automatic and the self-reset function maximizes production uptime. Voith will demonstrate the function of this safety coupling on a model at the exhibition stand.

Voith will be presenting its coupling technologies and high-performance universal joint shafts at METEC, the international metallurgical trade fair, in Düsseldorf from June 16-20, 2015. For information on Voith's appearance at METEC, see: www.metec.voith.com.
