Renewable Energy in Africa – Powering Uganda through Hydropower

Contract signing for Ugandan Hydropower Plant Achwa River.
Heidenheim: Voith is to equip hydropower plant Achwa River in Uganda, Africa. The order covers design, manufacturing, supply and transportation as well as erection, testing and commissioning of all electro-mechanical parts.

The hydropower plant is located in northern Uganda where river Achwa forms the border between the districts Gulu and Pader. With four vertical Francis turbines and vertical synchronous generators the power plant will have an installed capacity of 42 MW. In addition to the power units also the complete electrical and mechanical balance of plant systems as well as automation will be provided by Voith.
