Heidenheim. Voith remains firmly committed to sustainability. That is the essence of its Sustainability Report for 2015/2016, which has just been released. In each of the years since 2011/12, it has saved 112 gigawatt-hours of energy, 21,502 metric tons of waste and 604,807 cubic meters of wastewater. In monetary terms, the savings amount to 11 million euros annually.

This is a significant achievement, both economically and ecologically.

In 2011/2012, Voith set itself ambitious goals for the subsequent five-year period: By fiscal 2017/18 it would reduce its energy requirements by 20 percent, its waste volume by 25 percent and its freshwater consumption by 10 percent. In the time covered by the report, Voith again make great strides towards these goals. In the case of wastewater, it has already met its target by reducing its total production by more than 30 percent. Now, just before the end of the five-year period, the company has come within reach of its targets for energy and waste, with total savings of 15.6 percent and 18.7 percent respectively.

Global leader in occupational health and safety

For years Voith has been one of the world’s leading companies when it comes to occupational health and safety. During the reporting period its accident frequency rate averaged 1.6 accidents per million hours worked. Voith’s newly structured global organization for occupational health and safety and environmental protection ensures consistent standards in these areas throughout the Group. This is another way in which Voith demonstrates its commitment to sustainability.

Voith has been publishing its Sustainability Report since 2009. The report is based on the internationally recognized guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). It is now being issued in three parts in order to meet the needs of different readers. A supplemental online fact collection gives details about the company’s various areas of activity. It is addressed primarily to sustainability experts and specialists. The new highlight brochure “Living by Our Values, Creating Value” provides a concise summary of the main sustainability topics at Voith and focuses on selected aspects during the reporting period.
