Outstanding occupational safety recognised at Voith

  • German Wood and Metal Trades Association safety award goes to Voith for occupation safety app eVAP
  • Benchmark for safety at work
Heidenheim. Occupational safety is a top priority for Voith – as confirmed by the recognition received by the eVAP occupational safety app which was developed in-house. The German Wood and Metal Trades Association (BGHM) presented the technology company from Heidenheim with the “Schlauer Fuchs” safety award at this year’s A+A International Trade Fair for Safety, Security and Health at Work in Düsseldorf today.

The BGHM award recognises companies for concrete measures implemented to improve health and safety at work. This year, the app solution from Voith was chosen, which employees use on their smartphone or tablet to document and communicate potential workplace hazards. Information and photos are sent directly to the manager responsible and into a database. This data is then promptly evaluated by managers at daily briefings.

BGHM Prevention Manager Stefan Gros praised the concept at the award presentation: “For occupational safety to work well, all employees have to be involved and working together. Using a modern, everyday medium for this is a good thing.” Ulrich Weiße, Head of Corporate Sustainability and Health, Safety and Environmental Protection at Voith, added: “We want our occupational-safety app to leverage the potential of digitalisation for safety at work. This makes it easier for our employees to help prevent accidents. We will continue to follow this course in the future and explore possibilities for expanding the app to allow other interested companies to use our application.”

Global leader in occupational safety
Voith has been a leading company in the field of occupational health and safety in its industry for many years – as confirmed by numerous key figures: For example, its low accident frequency rate, which averages 1.6 accidents per million working hours, is better than any of its competitors. Voith’s global organisation ensures uniform, company-wide implementation of guidelines and targets for occupational health and safety and environmental protection. These topics are also central components of Voith’s commitment to sustainability, which is outlined in the company’s recently-published Sustainability Report. The report follows the internationally-recognised guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and has been published on a regular basis since 2009.
