Voith RailPacks – Complete Drive Systems for all Types of Rail Vehicles
Be it diesel-hydraulic, diesel-mechanical or diesel-electric rail vehicles – by accumulating decades of experiences Voith is one of the world's leading systems suppliers for all types of diesel drive systems. The range of products covers engine-independent solutions from 300 to 750 kW, which also comply with the growing trend of hybridization.
At InnoTrans Voith is presenting its modular RailPack, a systems package for diesel drives, in a configuration with the hydrodynamic S111 transmission for rail applications with a maximum transmission input power of 250 kW. As a further installation option Voith also shows the hydro-mechanical DIWARail transmission. A hydrodynamic brake, which significantly reduces wear at the mechanical brakes, is integrated in the transmission. The DIWARail is also available in a different configuration with integrated reversing mechanism. Compared with alternative solutions, the proven and robust reversing mechanism increases availability and reduces maintenance costs. Thanks to an integrated secondary lube pump, all DIWARail configurations allow towing while the engine is switched off.
The demand for diesel-electric drive solutions is on the increase, especially for railcars in the lower output range. Voith has recognized this trend and already delivers prototypes of a diesel-electric RailPack 400DE systems package for a hybrid vehicle in China. The vehicle is electrically driven and also has a diesel engine for trips on non-electrified routes.
With a total of over 1,000 delivered drive packages, Voith systems have long established themselves in the market. Apart from being installed in railcars such as the British Class 185, they are also in service in special rail vehicles like the UST 02 of Gleisbaumechanik Brandenburg. For the new Atribo railcars of the Polish manufacturer PESA Voith currently delivers another 80 RailPacks 400DH fitted with Voith T 211 turbo transmissions.
As a systems manufacturer with engine competency Voith offers optimally adapted solutions for any market. Depending on the requirements, the diesel engines are supplied with six or twelve cylinders and, by complying with Stage IIIb, meet the latest exhaust gas regulations for Europe.
Voith Turbo, a Group Division of Voith GmbH, is a specialist for intel-ligent drive solutions. Customers from highly diverse industries such as oil and gas, energy, mining and mechanical engineering, ship technology, rail and commercial vehicles rely on advanced technolo-gies from Voith Turbo.
Voith sets standards in the markets energy, oil & gas, paper, raw ma-terials and transportation & automotive. Founded in 1867, Voith em-ploys almost 43 000 people, generates €5.7 billion in sales, operates in about 50 countries around the world and is today one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe.
