Reduce Energy Costs by up to 50% — the Self-Contained CLDP Servo Drive from Voith
With its CLDP (Closed Loop Differential Pump) servo drive, the Rutesheim hydraulics specialist Voith Turbo H + L Hydraulic combines electromechanical and hydraulic systems. The self-contained linear drive is compact, highly dynamic and energy-efficient. In addition, it offers the user all the advantages of a hydraulic system solution. These include overload protection, a high power density and virtually wear-free operation. Thanks to the integrated servo pump, the energy efficiency is far greater than that of conventional solutions. As part of the motto "Saving Energy while Increasing Productivity," Voith will present the CLDP in live operation at the HANNOVER MESSE trade fair from the 13th to the 17th of April in Hall 23, Booth B41.
The CLDP servo drive can be used for all direct linear motions – primarily when dynamic response, reproducibility and reliability are needed. Enhanced productivity thanks to drive speed and higher operational reliability through automatic overload protection are attractive features for plant operators.
The servo drive is basically a hydraulic gearbox with a nearly unlimited gear ratio. This makes it possible to use it in applications with high dynamic speed requirements and high power demands.
The servo drive design is simple. The heart of the unit is an integrated servo pump consisting of a servo motor and an internal gear pump. Its flow rate is perfectly matched to the cylinder surfaces of a differential cylinder. The unit also includes intelligent control via fieldbus connection, a pressure limiter, and a small compensating tank. This control system design renders other components, such as expensive valve engineering, unnecessary. As a result, energy losses caused by throttle effects do not occur with the CLDP. This increases the machine energy savings by up to 50% over machinery using conventional drive systems.
The CLDP servo drive can be easily integrated into new or existing machines. Only the electrical connection for the servo motor is needed. By measuring current operating states and diagnosing the individual components and the entire system, it also creates ideal conditions for integration within the framework of Industry 4.0.

Voith Turbo H + L Hydraulic is a subsidiary of Voith Turbo. Voith Turbo, a Group Division of Voith GmbH, is a specialist for intelligent drive solutions and systems. Customers from highly diverse industries such as oil and gas, energy, mining and metal processing, mechanical engineering, ship technology, rail and commercial vehicles rely on advanced technologies from Voith Turbo.
Voith sets standards in the markets energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials and transportation & automotive. Founded in 1867, Voith employs almost 39 000 people, generates EUR 5.3 billion in sales, operates in about 50 countries around the world and is today one of the largest family-owned companies in Europe.
For Voith, the HMI partner country of India is one of the promising growth regions globally. The company has been represented there since 1911. Voith technologies are used at key points in the value-added chains and ensure effective, reliable operation of entire plants and systems. For example, today Voith couplings control the pumps and fans in more than 90 percent of all thermal power plants in India. The significant milestones there also include projects such as the equipping of metros in New Delhi, Bangalore and Jaipur with Voith components.
