Voith BHS rotor turning devices

Voith rotor turning devices offer plant operators great value, safety at high turning speeds, high breakaway torques, and high mass moments of inertia. This cost-efficient solution is primarily used to break away and start shaft trains. These devices can also turn rotors slowly, facilitating a safe cooling-down process. This slow cooling process is necessary for dimensional stability while, at the same time, blade channel and bearing wear damage is avoided. Additionally, rotor turning devices are used to align and position shaft trains.

For optimal shaft train operation

Very often, the starting torque of the prime mover needs to be increased to initiate the rotation of the shaft trains. Furthermore, using a rotor turning device eliminates the need for hydrostatic bearings, and the peak current required for a typical startup can be significantly reduced.

Technical features

Used primarily for breaking out and starting shaft trains, our rotor turning gears can also be used to slowly turn rotors and ease the cool-down process to ensure the dimensional stability of the system. Reliable and efficient in aligning and positioning rotor shafts, our rotor turning gears achieve speeds of up to 500 rpm and breakaway torques from 300 up to 100,000 Nm. In addition, we also offer bespoke rotor turning gears, e.g., hydraulic motors or return stops and optional attachments.
