RailPacks for the First Time with Diesel Engine

Voith will deliver eight diesel drive systems - so-called Powerpacks - to the Polish rail vehicle manufacturer PESA. For the first time, these units will be driving two-car diesel railcars in the Stettin area with the Voith diesel engine.
Arriva PLC is a subsidiary of DB German Railways and also operates as a regional train company in Poland. At the end of 2010, Arriva was given a ten-year contract to run the regional rail traffic in the Polish province of Pomerania. As Arriva is also in the process of developing a further line of its network in Poland, the company is investing in four new two-car diesel railcars. These vehicles will be built by Pesa, Poland's largest rail manufacturer. At the turn of 2012/2013 the regional trains, each with 120 seats and a maximum speed of 120 km/h, will enter service.

Drive Systems for Stettin Trains with Voith Diesel Engine

Since 2010 Voith is also an official rail engine manufacturer. For the first time, the RailPacks will feature the Voith R2876T3-390 horizontal six-cylinder engine with an output of 390 kW. The V6 engine operates with a single-stage turbocharging concept and an SCR system.

Voith diesel engines have been developed for railcars, locomotives and special vehicles. Apart from the horizontal six-cylinder diesel engine, the portfolio includes a V8 with 500 kW. At present, Voith is working extensively at the development of a V12 engine with an output of 580 kW or 700 kW. Voith engines meet all rail and exhaust norms.

Voith diesel engines stand out by low fuel consumption and low emissions. Their robustness and reliability as well as long service intervals - a feature demanded by rail operators for reasons of economy - make them particularly suitable for rail applications.

Worldwide, over 800 RailPacks are in service. Installed in the underfloor area of the railcar in order to save space they comprise all components required for driving rail vehicles and their auxiliary systems: diesel engine, transmission, generator or cooling system. Voith builds RailPacks in the 382 kW to 750 kW power class.

Voith Turbo, the specialist for hydrodynamic drive, coupling and braking systems for road, rail and industrial applications, as well as for ship propulsion systems, is a Group Division of Voith GmbH.

Voith sets standards in the markets energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials and transportation & automotive. Founded in 1867, Voith employs almost 40,000 people, generates € 5.6 billion in sales, operates in about 50 countries around the world and is today one of the biggest family-owned companies in Europe.
