Ruzomberok PM 18 optimizes tail threading process on the pope reel

The company Mondi SCP Ruzomberok in Slovakia resolved their difficulties in the tail threading process of its PM 18 with the assistance of Voith Paper. The problem had emerged due to unequal gap differences between pope reel and tambour, caused by wear, especially on the tender side.
A skilled Voith Paper team was able to re-work and optimize the pope reel in just 60 hours including a venta groove regrinding with the reel on site. Furthermore, PM 18’s team decided to apply a TerraGrip P coating on the pope reel. This hard metal coating can be applied directly inside the paper machine and guarantees a smooth, clean surface for several years thereby extending the lifetime of the reel. The optimization of the pope reel by Voith in September 2011 has resulted in stable and unproblematic tail threading.

Mondi SCP Ruzomberok PM 18 produces 365,000 tons per year of woodfree, uncoated copy paper on a machine width of 6.5 m.
