Front end systems

Front end systems

Front end systems for rail vehicles are highly complex systems. The individual components such as front nose, front hatches and coupler must be perfectly matched to each other for optimum functionality. We do this for you by supplying complete systems including energy absorption concepts ready for installation from a single source.

    All benefits at a glance

20 years of experience and the endeavor to continuously optimize our technology make Voith an ideal partner for front end systems. You benefit from our cross-application competence and a holistic approach up to the coordination of coupler and front hatch control.

All advantages of Voith's front systems at a glance: Minimal coordination effort, worldwide availability, long-standing system experience across applications, individual tailor-made solutions, plug-and-play solution, optimum coordination of the individual components
Future-oriented high-speed trains demand highly functional technology. That's why we decided to develop the front end of the Velaro Novo in cooperation with Voith. With its many years of experience, in-depth specialized knowledge and ultimately with a customized front end system Voith proofed being the ideal partner for this project. Together, we are now developing an ideal design for our new platform.

      Voith systems in worldwide operation

Worldwide, Voith front end systems are ahead in local, regional and intercity traffic. Our international partners benefit from highly functional complete systems and optimally coordinated components as well as minimum interface effort. We supply individual solutions according to our customer's requirements, right up to the entire vehicle head including interior fittings.

Rendered front of the EC250 train

Full speed ahead with Voith front end

For the Swiss EC250 high-speed train, which operates at a top speed of 249 km/h at SBB under the nickname Giruno in the Gotthard Tunnel, Voith designed the complete front including roof, coupler and front hatch control with data bus connection.

        High-tech systems for Silicon Valley

Voith supplied the entire front end for Stadler's KISS double-decker EMUs, which are operated by Caltrain in Silicon Valley, California.

A smile thanks to Voith front flaps

The Taiwanese commuter train EMU800 is nicknamed Smiling Train because of the yellow painted arch on its front. Voith contributed the kinematics and the couplers in addition to the front hatches, which help the train smile.

        Harmony at top speed

The Chinese high-speed train CRH3-380 called Harmony Express reaches a maximum speed of 380 km/h at short notice. Voith's scope of supply entailed the nose module including hatches, kinematics as well as couplers and the coordination of the individual components.

        Technology for Mumbai's mobility

The Mumbai Monorail is the first project of its kind in India and serves to improve mobility in the megacity. Voith technology has been in use since the start of operation in 2014. Voith contributed with complete frontends including the driver's cabs to the project.

4-stage concept for the Hemu 400

For the Korean high-speed train Hemu 400 from Hyundai Rotem, Voith designed a front end system including front nose and hatches, kinematics, couplers as well as a four-stage energy absorption concept.

Voith front system for future-oriented mobility

Voith has developed a front system including automatic coupler, kinematics and control unit for the new, pioneering high-speed platform Velaro Novo from Siemens.

As part of the Caltrain project, we awarded Voith the contract for an extremely complex front mask. Through the combination of German know-how and local production in the USA, Voith was able to master the initial challenges and supplied the oversized GFRP front mask 100% reliably.
