Waste Heat Recovery

Utilizing Exhaust Heat through a Steam Cycle.

SteamTrac and Steam Drive. More Drive Energy, Less Fuel.

With the innovative SteamTrac and SteamDrive systems for different applications, Voith has reacted to the growing concern about global warming and its impact on society. The compact ship systems utilize the exhaust heat of combustion engines on the basis of the latest technological findings.

SteamTrac

SteamTrac system converts energy contained in the exhaust heat of the combustion engine into usable mechanical energy and forwards it to the prop shaft of the transmission output (PTI). As a result, a considerably lower amount of fuel needs to be injected. Fuel consumption and emissions are significantly reduced - while the engine output stays the same.

SteamTrac

SteamDrive

With the SteamDrive system, mechanical energy gained by the Voith SteamTrac is fed to a generator. The function principle is identical; the only difference: electrical energy is generated rather than mechanical energy. This energy can be used for the on-board power system - and reduces both fuel consumption and emissions of the on-board generators.
