Voith in Africa
Voith has had a presence in Africa since the 1930s though liaison offices, distributors and several agents. Our first African subsidiary was established in South Africa in 1982. The Voith Moroccan and Algerian subsidiaries were founded in 2003 and 2005, respectively. In May 2018, Voith opened its East African Hydropower Hub in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
For more than 80 years, Voith Hydro has been a regular supplier of equipment to the hydropower industry on the African continent, not least through the successful implementation of projects in more than 25 countries. Today, about 25 percent of the currently installed turbine capacity in Africa has been supplied by Voith.
Voith manages important projects in various industries such as power generation, oil & gas, mining and public transport throughout Africa, thus supporting the sustainable economic growth and social improvement of the region. One of our latest contracts for the modernization of the public transport system in Casablanca, Morocco, epitomizes this commitment in Africa: 500 Euro 6 city buses with DIWA.6 automatic transmissions will enable efficient service with low pollutants and CO2 emissions.
