The suitable technology for each resource
Fibers from virgin pulp, recovered paper or paper machine broke are pulped with water to form a suspension in the “Pulping” process step. An optimal pulping technology can be selected, depending on the type of furnish, production output and the contaminant included in the furnish. Pulping systems for recovered paper not only break down the fiber material, but also remove large non-recyclable components (rejects). It is, therefore, important to balance the main pulping parameters such as stock consistency, temperature, mechanical attrition, dwell time and chemical additives so that trash components are not broken down unnecessarily and, thus, made more difficult to screen later in the process. Pulping of recovered paper also has to consider the various parameters for downstream ink removal if used for graphical paper products.
IntensaDrum is a pulping drum for efficient pulping. It performs in a consistency range of 15% to 20%, gently pulping the paper and separating the fibers from contaminants.Product Details

Removal of contaminants with minimal fiber loss
Cleaning systems are used to remove coarse or fine heavy and lightweight contaminants as well as entrained air. This provides a clean fiber material but also reduces wear and tear in the downstream equipment. The cleaners are used for recovered paper stock systems, approach flow systems, and stock preparation systems with virgin fibers.
To minimize fiber loss, the rejects have to be processed in subsequent cleaner stages. There are two or three cleaner stages in Voith's recovered paper systems. In the approach flow system, no more than four stages are required.
With InduraHiClean, the separation starts in the headpiece. By creating a vortex rotation, IDH breaks up existing flocks and prevents the agglomeration of fibers into new flocks for an easy and reliable separation.
For stringent removal efficiency requirements, the InduraHiClean cleaners can be combined in a two-stage protector system called InduraPro. Even small stones or sand can be separated with this system.
Removal of undesirable contaminants
Immediately before the stock suspension enters the headbox, pressure screens are installed both in the main flow and in the ModuleJet dilution stream if provided. Since these screens provide a last barrier before the paper machine to prevent damage by foreign bodies, the connection between screen and headbox must be directly linked and completely closed. Screening can also play a key role in paper machine broke treatment for removing trash accidentally introduced in the broke.
The flow-optimized machine housing results in constant flow and pressure conditions around the basket. Together with the use of the experienced Voith rotors and screening baskets, a high sticky reduction is achieved.Product Details

Improve optical cleanliness
The primary goal of flotation deinking is the selective removal of printing ink, stickies and hydrophobic impurities in general from the stock suspension, thus improving the brightness and optical appearance of the product. Fillers and coating particles can also be removed efficiently with flotation.
Selectivity is important for retaining useful material such as fibers in the accepts. The selectivity criteria is the wettability of the particle surfaces. The more hydrophobic the particle surface, the better it adheres to an air bubble and the better the chance of its removal.

The purpose of washing is to remove undesirable particles smaller than 30 µm from the fiber suspension through a separation process according to the filtration principle. In contrast to thickening, which mainly removes water, washing separates solids from solids. At the same time, however, dissolved and colloidal contaminants are also removed with the filtrate.
Thickening is important for increasing the stock consistency as required for further processing, minimizing storage volumes and for water loop separation. With the dewatering process, the stock consistency is increased from about 5 to 30% or more to prepare for the next process stage and for complete water loop separation.

Reduce unwanted contaminants and improve optical characteristics
Disperging is used in recovered fiber systems for reducing unwanted contaminants to a size not interfering with downstream processing. Disperging also has the task of dislodging and reducing residual ink particles from the recovered fibers. This is a precondition for efficient deinking in flotation cells. In recovered fiber systems for brown papers (OCC), disperging must also improves fiber strength in addition to reducing unwanted contaminants. In bleaching systems, dispergers are used for intense mixing of the bleaching agents with the fibers.
Bleaching improves the optical characteristics of the stock. The brightness is increased with the penetration of chemical additives by bleaching the fibers and colour stripping as well as moving the colour spectrum.
