Cleaning

Removal of contaminants with minimal fiber loss

Cleaning systems are used to remove coarse or fine heavy and lightweight contaminants as well as entrained air. This provides a clean fiber material but also reduces wear and tear on the downstream equipment. Cleaners are used for recovered paper stock systems, approach flow systems, and stock preparation systems with virgin fibers.

To minimize fiber loss, the rejects have to be processed in subsequent cleaner stages. In Voith's cleaner systems, in most cases two or three cleaner stages are required but no more than four stages.

    One system – Multiple configurations

The modular cleaning system InduraClean consists of a redesigned cleaner bank and various cleaners that are perfectly matched to one another. Depending on process requirements, the system can focus on achieving a much higher production volume, a reduction of energy consumption, or a significantly improved separation efficiency.

        InduraHiClean

        Reliable separation of abrasive contaminants

InduraHiClean is a high-consistency cleaner that removes abrasive contaminants directly after the pulper. With the use of IDH cleaners, the wear of machines located downstream in the process – such as screens or deflakers – can be minimized.

With InduraHiClean, the separation starts in the headpiece. In order to break up existing flocks and prevent the agglomeration of fibers into new flocks, the incoming suspension is put into a vortex rotation with a high flow velocity. Without flocks blocking the way, the contaminants can be separated easily and reliably.

InduraHiClean cleaners are available in a standard version as well as a particularly wear-resistant version for high contaminant loads. The bottom cone, vortex breaker and reject trap are interchangeable between most cleaner sizes. Thus, the number of spare parts needed can be reduced, and in case of a high capacity increase, the number of new parts required is minimized. Thanks to the unique Vortex Breaker, no contaminants are rotating on the top valve of the trap during the discharge time. Thus, the life of the valves can be increased significantly.

For stringent separation efficiency requirements, the InduraHiClean cleaners can be combined in the two-stage protector system InduraPro.

        BlueLine Advantages

Reduced Fiber Loss Reduced Fiber Loss

Obstructive flocks are broken up to separate contaminants easily and reliably. The intermittent operation with a reject trap reduces the fiber loss to a bare minimum.

Lower Maintenance Cost Lower Maintenance Cost

Since individual components are compatible across most cleaner sizes, fewer spare parts are needed. The Vortex Breaker significantly increases the life of the valves.

        InduraPro

Separation efficiency for most stringent requirements

InduraPro is a two-stage protector system based on InduraHiClean high-consistency cleaners for the separation of highly abrasive contaminants. In the second stage, even particles like small stones and sand can be separated. As a result, IDP meets the most demanding requirements for yield and protection of downstream machines.

In the InduraPro system, two cleaners in the first stage operate with a continuous reject flow. The reject is sent via a sedimentation tank to discharge heavy containments and a booster pump into the second stage. Here, the fibers are separated from the reject and fed back into the process. Due to the small diameter of the second stage, even particles like small stones or sand can be separated, and the separation efficiency is increased significantly.

        BlueLine Advantages

educed Fiber Loss Reduced Fiber Loss

The first-stage reject is sent via an optional sedimentation tank into the second stage where the fibers are separated from the reject and returned to the process. Thus, the yield can be increased.

Lower Maintenance Cost Lower Maintenance Cost

The reject from the first stage is continuously discharged and diluted into the second stage. Thus, the wear due to heavy particle enrichment in the first stage is reduced. Coarser contaminants are separated in the sedimentation tank to protect the second stage. The pre-treatment in the sedimentation tank, the reduction of the consistency and the smaller diameter of the second stage lead to a high efficiency. A longer service life can be set by reducing the differential pressure.

        InduraClean bank

        High throughput with reduced footprint

With its flow-optimized, space-saving and modular design, the InduraClean cleaner bank is a winning solution. Thanks to the optional single isolation, individual cleaners can be separated for maintenance without having to stop production, resulting in increased system availability and better productivity. In addition, the cleaner bank features a flow-optimized design that prevents deposits in the header pipes due to rejects or highly contaminated stock. The Clean Design of the InduraClean bank ensures a low-maintenance, robust process during operation.

        InduraClean IDC-4

Optimum cleaning efficiency for any application

The design of the InduraClean IDC-4 accommodates several small hydrocyclones in one unit and thus combines outstanding separation efficiency with high throughput in a single cleaner unit. Thanks to this arrangement, a significantly higher production can be achieved with a compact design compared to conventional solutions. Due to the lower pressure drop, the InduraClean IDC-4 cleaners have a lower energy consumption, which reduces operating costs considerably.

The InduraClean concept has a modular structure, which means that the cleaner can be easily adapted to the customer’s individual requirements and production targets.

        • The IDC-4F (FourFlow) was specially developed for large production capacities and is used primarily in the production of board and packaging papers.
        • The InduraClean IDC-4Q (FourQuality), on the other hand, is mainly suited to specialty and graphic paper grades, because it prioritizes very high cleaning efficiency and quality.

In addition to the installation of the new cleaner banks, Voith also offers the fast rebuild of existing banks. Voith provides support both in system planning and installation as well as commissioning and service for optimum results. The new cleaners can also be integrated into banks from other manufacturers.

Lower Energy Consumption Lower Energy Consumption

Power saving by reduced pressure drop and advanced system configuration. High inlet stock consistencies allow low specific energy use, fewer machine units and therefore lower costs.

        InduraClean IDC-5

        InduraClean IDC-5I

Maximum effectiveness and the least fiber loss

InduraClean IDC-5l is a multi-stage system for cleaning fiber suspensions. It removes heavy contaminants in the stock preparation and approach flow systems.

With stock consistencies of up to 3%, InduraClean IDC-5I achieves the highest separation effectiveness thanks to its smooth inner surfaces and flow-optimized head piece. Cones made of plastic or wear-resistant ceramic flexibly adapt to the concentration of contaminants that are present. Due to the high concentration of contaminants in the reject, fiber loss is low. In addition, the EcoMizer dilution and continuous overflow ensure obstruction-free and low-pulsation operation in all stages, even with the highest stock consistencies.

        InduraClean IDC-5C

Removal of contaminants with low specific weight

With the InduraClean IDC-5C cleaner, any specifically light contaminants in the suspension like air, polystyrene and adhesives can be significantly reduced. This further improves paper quality and leads to a smooth downstream process.

Paper mills that encounter lightweight rejects in their stock can use the LightPlus upgrade, which is suitable for HC5, HCH5 and HCL5 cleaners to a combined system for heavy and lightweight rejects. The upgrade is a great value alternative to a large investment in extensive new lightweight cleaning systems.

        Lightweight cleaner LT3

        Reliable separation of lightweight contaminants

The lightweight cleaner LT3 is a multi-stage system to be combined with heavyweight cleaning systems. It removes specific light contaminants such as Styrofoam, wax, stickies and adhesives. The lightweight cleaner LT3 is a co-current cleaner without crossflow or short-circuit flows. It has a large overflow cross section that ensures blockage-free operation and low pulsation. In addition, its compact and maintenance-friendly bank design is impressive.

The lightweight cleaner LT3 is used in stock preparation and in the approach flow system to remove specific light contaminants from the suspension. It is also used for post-cleaning of the Combicleaner light reject and gas reduction.
