YORK, Pa. (Nov. 2, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) awarded Voith Hydro a nearly $50 million contract to modernize the turbines and generators at the Norfork Dam in Baxter County, Arkansas. The work is expected to begin soon and projected to last through 2028. Originally completed in 1944, the Norfork Dam powerhouse features two turbine/generator units each with 31.3 MW of generating capacity that were originally manufactured in the 1940’s in York, Pa.  Upon completion, each unit could generate up to 46.5 MW. Most importantly, the water quality below the dam will be improved thanks to Voith Hydro’s proven dissolved oxygen enhancement technology that has been improving aquatic habitats downstream of dams for over 25 years.

Voith Hydro is a full-line supplier of hydropower equipment and services including project planning and execution, manufacturing, electrical and mechanical engineering, outage management, modernization, and aftermarket business and services. Its York, Pa. manufacturing heritage traces back to 1877, when Stephen Morgan Smith began designing and producing hydraulic turbines.
