950 DIWA.6 transmissions for Berlin buses

Heidenheim, Berlin. In the next few years, Voith will fit up to 950 Citaro city buses from EvoBus with DIWA.6 automatic transmissions. In combination with the modern Euro 6 engines from Mercedes-Benz, this drive technology enables Berlin's public transport authority to operate its fleet efficiently with low fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. This is the biggest single order for the DIWA product range that Voith has received to date. The Berlin public transport authority (BVG) is relying on technology by EvoBus and Voith to upgrade its vehicle fleet. In the next few years, the company will take delivery of up to 950 city buses from EvoBus, all of them fitted with DIWA.6 automatic transmissions from Voith. The buses will also feature air compressors from Voith, which Mercedes-Benz installs in all its city buses. Under the terms of the framework agreement, BVG plans to purchase 600 Citaro G articulated buses and 350 Citaro Solo buses. The agreement is Voith's largest single order to date in the DIWA segment.

Delivery of the first batch of more than 100 articulated buses and 50 solo buses will begin as soon as the start of 2019. The DIWA.6 automatic transmission is a key component for highly efficient, low-pollution bus operation.

In what is currently the most modern automatic transmission from the proven DIWA product family, an intelligent start-up management system with reduction of operating pressure and optimized converter reduces fuel consumption by up to five percent. This cuts CO₂ emissions and therefore protects the environment. The automatic transmission also allows stepless starting and braking in the first speed range. When used in city buses this enables up to 50 percent of all gear shifts to be avoided. This results in a more pleasant ride, reduces wear on the drive train and increases vehicle availability.
