U.S. Army Corps of Engineers turns to Voith’s cavitation expertise for Gavins Point work
- The three units at the Nebraska dam will see extended service life through the cavitation repair
- Voith’s experience on similar projects was rated "outstanding" by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and was one of the deciding factors for this award selection

The Kaplan units, which deliver 44 MW each for a total of 132 MW of installed capacity, will be repaired in place through Voith’s proven welding and machining processes.

The Gavins Point dam is the most-downstream hydroelectric dam on the Missouri River and impounds Lewis and Clark Lake. It is situated over the river between Cedar County, Nebraska and Yankton County, South Dakota, and it was commissioned in 1957.
Voith is one of the world leaders in large hydropower projects and its associated technologies and services, including on-site services and outage management. Its work on this cavitation repair project began in May 2019 and is expected to be complete in 2022.
