HEIDENHEIM/KAYSERI. Simka Kagit Sanayi VE Ticaret AS, a Turkish manufacturer of various converted paper and paperboard products, has commissioned Voith to supply its OnQuality Quality Control System (QCS) of scanners and sensors to the company’s PM 1 in Kayseri, Turkey.

The upgrade comprises the newest generation of scanners and sensors of Voith’s OnQuality QCS, the modular automation platform ComCore as well as a multi-year service agreement for the whole scope of supply. The new system will replace a former generation of Voith’s QCS that has been reliably operating since 2007.

We are happy to again partner with Voith and aim to increase production quality and efficiency by investing in their reliable QCS solutions.
Osman Ozsuveren, Chairman of the Board at Simka Kagit

The OnQuality QCS will allow Simka Kagit to meet high paper quality requirements and to achieve an increased operational efficiency at PM 1, where Simka Kagit produces a large spectrum of different grades, ranging from corrugated medium to base paper for packaging. The QCS ordered is characterized by smart and modular functions. The attractive lifecycle costs improve the competitiveness of production through higher reliability and lower maintenance expenditure. The OnQuality.Sensors ordered by Simka Kagit will control and optimize important quality parameters including basis weight and moisture. All sensors include a smart sensor and comprehensive diagnostic functions, and provide easy access for maintenance and system extension. They are compact, robust and feature state-of-the-art technology.

The 5001 scanner ordered from the OnQuality.Scanners portfolio will ideally complement the sensors. Its robust design with an integrated, stable measuring platform enables smooth operation in the demanding environment of a paper mill. The high traversing speed combined with fast signal processing provides high-resolution profiles for precise longitudinal and transverse profile control. With the precise measurements of the OnQuality.Sensors the control of all relevant quality parameters in machine- and cross-direction is enabled. The Voith OnQuality QCS is based on the modular and proven automation platform ComCore that allows an easy integration of the QCS into the customer’s automation system, providing clear information and easy access to papermakers. The user-friendly interface facilitates an easy optimization of the quality parameter profiles.

The solutions that Voith presented matched perfectly to our requirements in the field of QCS, we are confident that with the new system installed we are future proof.
Vedat Tugrul, General Manager at Simka Kagit

As part of Voith's Papermaking 4.0 portfolio, the new OnQuality QCS 4.0 features enable papermakers to seamlessly integrate with the OnCumulus cloud platform, preparing the ground for paper mill digitalization. In addition, the OnQuality QCS 4.0 allows to overcome the boundaries of physical sensors by providing several virtual sensor applications. As an optimal complement to the OnQuality QCS 4.0 and as part of the Papermaking 4.0 service portfolio, Voith's OnPerformance.Lab offers expert remote consulting, audits and troubleshooting to improve papermaking and quality control processes based on the data of the QCS.
