Green Bay Packaging significantly increases production efficiency of its PM 4 with Voith's OnQuality QCS system
- Green Bay Packaging achieves significant production improvements with the Voith OnQuality Quality Control System (QCS)
- Customizable OnQuality QCS enables precise grade quality monitoring and optimization, resulting in significant cost savings
- Installation resulted in reduced curl, optimized product quality, higher line availability and increased operating efficiency
The OnQuality QCS, consisting of innovative OnQuality.Scanners, OnQuality.Actuators and OnQuality.Controls (MD and CD), proved to be a tailor-made solution for the company. The robust design of the OnQuality.Scanner, developed specifically for the demanding environment of the paper industry, has already been proven in over 800 installations worldwide. The installation of the compact OnQuality.Sensors, which are only 7.5 cm (2.95 inches) wide, also allows flexible installation via plug & play in tight mounting positions.
Precise measurements with the OnQuality.Scanners and OnQuality.Sensors enabled Green Bay Packaging to achieve accurate results even in a demanding production environment. The scanner's high traverse speed and reliable signal processing via the CAN bus provide high-resolution profiles that enable precise control of paper quality in machine direction and cross-profile.
The high reliability and long-term, low operating costs help to future-proof Green Bay Packaging's production processes. Voith’s team of experts was on site four days a week to assist Green Bay and ensure a smooth implementation process. After the implementation phase, Voith continues to provide support through the OnPerformance.Lab and remote expert assistance to improve processes based on the QCS data. Since the installation of OnQuality QCS and the start-up of PM 4, the system has shown outstanding reliability and, in summary, led to the following results:
- Curl reduction
- Optimal product quality
- Higher plant availability
- Higher operating efficiency
- Higher productivity
- Lower operating and maintenance costs
