Bill Malus

After studying Chemical Engineering & Management Science at the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada), Bill started his career in 1987 as a Process Engineer for Tremco Canada Limited.

In 1990, Bill joined General Electric gaining experience in several businesses starting with GE Plastics/Silicones as Plant Manager. In 1995, he became General Manager at GE Motors for the AC Traction Motors Business. He was then part of the initial wave of Master Black Belts in GE leading their launch of the Six Sigma Corporate initiative in the mid ‘90s. In 1998, he became Vice President Global Operations & Services for GE Digital Energy – Multilin, and in 2003, General Manager for GE Energy Services (North America).

In 2005, Bill joined HD Supply (Industrial Division of Home Depot) as Canadian Director of their Industrial Supply Division.

In 2007, he joined Voith Hydro as Head of Voith Hydro Mississauga (VHMS) and Member of the Board of Management for Voith Hydro Canada.

Since December 2013, Bill is President and Chief Executive Officer of Voith Hydro Canada.

Bill plays an active role in the hydropower industry as he serves on the Board of the Canadian Hydro Association (CHA) and as a member of the National Electricity Roundtable (NER). He also takes part in promoting and supporting World Class business initiatives for Continuous Improvement in Canadian industry. In 2002, he was appointed Chairman of the Board for the High Performance Manufacturing (HPM) Consortium and was re-elected to a second term in 2005. He was also Vice President for the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) for the Canadian Region between 2004 and 2006. Since 2013, Bill is a member of the executive committees of the National Electricity Roundtable (NER) and of the Canadian Hydropower Association (CHA).

Uwe Novak

After graduating with an MBA at the University of Stuttgart-Hobenheim, Germany, Uwe Novak joined General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMSC) in 1994 where he gained experience in several positions, starting as European Management trainee. In 1995, he became Member of a Business Restructuring Team in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1997, Uwe was appointed Controller Europe.

In 1999, Uwe joined Voith as Junior Executive in the Voith GmbH Corporate Finance Department. In 2000, he made a transition to work as Head of Finance Department for Voith Paper Ltda and Voith Hydro Ltda, South America, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Uwe remained in this position until 2006, when he was appointed as CFO & Member of the Board of Management for Voith Facility Services Europe in Stuttgart, Germany.

In 2009, Uwe was appointed Executive Vice President & CFO, Member of the Board of Management for Voith Paper Ltda South America. In July 2016, Uwe was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Voith Hydro in Canada.

Uwe’s practical working experience abroad took him also to Ghana, Africa and to Hong Kong. He is also fluent in German, English and Portugese languages, and has a good knowledge of Spanish.

Over the years, Uwe constantly extended his expertise by attending several seminars and programs related to Finance as he holds a Certificate in International Accounting (CINA) from the Academy of International Accounting, Germany.

Peter MacLennan

Peter MacLennan

After studying Science and Engineering at Acadia and Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Peter joined BRIC Engineered Systems as a Mechanical Engineer.
In 2004, he started his career with Voith Hydro in Mississauga as a Project Manager for Generator parts & service.  In 2006 he was given an overseas assignment in Germany and Austria to support implementation of the global Engineering and Project Management standard. Upon his return to Canada in 2007 he continued to Project Manage significant modernization projects throughout Canada and the United States. In 2009, he became Operations Manager, responsible for the Project Management and Field Service departments of Voith Hydro Mississauga. In 2013, he was temporarily assigned as General Manager of Voith Turbo Canada.
In 2014, Peter was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Voith Hydro Canada.

 Dr. Hans Günther Poll, P.Eng.

Executive Vice President, Operations 

Dr. Poll is Executive Vice President, Operations of Voith Hydro Canada since June 2016. Prior to joining Voith Hydro Canada, he was holding the position of Worldwide Product Owner Turbine at Voith Hydro in Germany since 2014.

Dr. Poll held various positions at Voith Hydro as Mechanical Engineer for numerical development in 1992. In 1994, he moved to York, USA, where he held the position of Project Manager for Runners & Intercompany International Business (including Runner Engineering), and for Intra Company Business covering design, components engineering and cost management of international Voith Hydro companies for cast components, such as runners and blades. In 1997, he was appointed Manager – Manufacturing Engineering & Project Manager for runners & Intercompany international parts, and in 2005, Head of product Engineering and Development, Technical Risk Manager. In 2008, he was Head of Manufacturing – E/M Shops. In 2009 he became Operations Executive Director and Head of Manufacturing in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he was appointed Head of Standardization, Turbine and Generator in 2011.

Dr. Poll is a graduate of the University of Sao Paulo with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Dynamic Systems. He also holds a Bachelor in Computer Science from the State University of Sao Paulo.

He has more than 27 years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, installation and startup of Hydro Power Machines, including Francis, Kaplan, Pelton and Bulb Turbines. His experience also includes large competence in engineering to order (EtO) business, and as a builder of interdisciplinary large teams oriented to achieve targets. His expertise comprises on Site machine dynamic measurements and troubleshooting being customer focused. He is also specialized in building competences up and getting high performance teams.
