TerraSpeed is convincing in the press. Sappi Fine Paper Europe is very satisfied with its new TerraSpeed ceramic roll coating. At its plant in the southern German town of Ehingen, Sappi has been using the roll cover on the upper roll of the press since 2008. TerraSpeed shows outstanding roughness and sheet release characteristics and allows a low draw setting. These parameters are unchanged since the start-up in November 2008. Grinding the roll has so far not been necessary. With earlier thermal coatings, the rolls had to be dismantled and ground after 15-18 months of service life. Due to the long running time and continuous performance, TerraSpeed has substantially reduced operating costs for Sappi.

TerraGloss increases gloss and smoothness. TerraGloss is a hard metal thermal coating for calender rolls. It optimizes paper finishing by improving the profile accuracy, smoothness and gloss of the paper. TerraGloss is produced with hard materials on a carbide and nitride basis and for that reason has a high level of resistance to chemical and mechanical influences. Another advantage of TerraGloss is its extraordinarily good heat transmission which contributes to energy savings in the calender. TerraGloss is applied to hard calender rolls and is suitable for all paper grades.

TerraDry can also be applied directly in the paper machine. The coatings in the TerraDry line, which were developed for the dryer section, hold fast against dirt. Contamination, sticky contaminants and chemical residues from the paper create a persistent problem that impairs efficiency. Voith brought the TerraDry productline as a new generation of coatings for guide rolls and dryer cylinders onto the market in 2012. TerraDry coatings are strongly dirt-repellant and very wear- and corrosion-resistant, like TerraSpeed and TerraGloss. TerraDry ensures resistance of the rolls and contributes to a longer service life and running time of the clothing. TerraDry can be applied directly in the paper machine. Elaborate dismantling of dryer cylinders is thus omitted and the downtime required is substantially reduced.
