ARGO-HYTOS Application Days: Expertise over and beyond components.

The focus of the Application Days is about dialog among experts in a spirit of partnership with a view to inspiring one another and brainstorming new ideas. From time to time, ARGO-HYTOS invites customers to come along and watch demonstrations of its latest products and solutions in a setting far removed from the daily work routine, discuss their potential, and work together to think outside the box. Many of the ideas that have arisen at an Application Day have already led to concrete ARGO-HYTOS solutions that give customers a leading edge.

The ARGO-HYTOS Application Days encourage participants to think freely about overall systems instead of rigidly working through lists of specifications for components.

A break from the daily routine allows inspiration to flourish

These are remarkable facts and figures whether you are looking at the agricultural development curve in the past or considering the challenges of the near future. Most studies and forecasts agree that these figures predict continuing growth in the global population and the increasing impact of climate change. Both these challenges put agriculture under the spotlight.

“The demand for food will continue to grow worldwide,” says Dr. Lars Brinkschulte, Head of Systems & Innovation at ARGO-HYTOS. “If the agricultural industry is to feed 10 billion people in the future, the entire agricultural process chain must become even more efficient.” To do this, a lot of adjustments are being made simultaneously. Firstly, it is important to avoid damage to harvests, for example by making crops more heat-tolerant and able to do with less water. In this context, technology also plays a key role. “The more accurately a process step is carried out, the higher the crop yield can be later. This applies to processes ranging from tillage to soil management to the harvesting itself.”

The Application Days are highly appreciated because we are able to transfer a lot of expertise on hydraulic topics in a short time. Participants tell us that this kind of intensive engagement would not be possible for them in the course of their daily work routines.

Know-how transfer and exchanges that lead to new solutions

The Application Days focus on the transfer of know-how and on product demonstrations that allow new ARGO-HYTOS solutions to be experienced and tried out at first hand. However, these inspirations and trends from the world of hydraulics are merely the starting point for intensive exchanges between participants and ARGO-HYTOS personnel. “We ask our customers about their ideal machine. What should the technology do better or be able to do in addition?” says Wolfgang Rocca. “Only by expressing visions can their feasibility be explored. And that is what we are doing in-depth.”

Even development projects that have supposedly failed can take a different turn at the Application Days. “We often come up with another idea, simply because we are doing nothing else the whole day but thinking about hydraulic systems. This also means that we are familiar with every trend and know what is technically possible,” says Rocca. Based on core applications already developed, ARGO-HYTOS staff establish cross-connections to other machines. “The adaptation of technologies for other applications is a firmly embedded practice at our company. And this is what distinguishes us from the specialist departments of our customers, because as a system partner, we have insights into a very wide range of industries and applications,” says Rocca. “We are often perceived as a component supplier. But at the Application Days, our customers see that we have developed extensive system expertise that goes far beyond specific applications.”

Work twice as long with one battery charge

The starting point:

A customer of ARGO-HYTOS had electrified a road sweeper. Its main drawback was the limited battery capacity of just around 4.5 operating hours.
