Voith Steps on the Gas with the E-Motion Racing Team of Aalen

A brief insight into the world of Formula Student (plus video link)

Formula Student is an international design competition between students from various universities, set up in 1981 in the USA by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

Since 2006 the competition is carried out in Germany at the Hockenheimring under the patronage of the VDI German Engineers Association (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure). Further competitions in Europe take place at equally famous racing tracks, for example Silverstone in England or the Fiorano circuit in Italy.

Since 2009, Aalen University has been home to the E-Motion student racing team. The students develop and build a unique racing car, with which they will compete at the Formula Student Electric Germany at the Hockenheimring against teams from all over the world. Due to the huge number of tasks involved, students from nearly all faculties participate in the project.

Voith is a convinced backer and supporter of voluntary student activities. The company therefore sponsors a number of student initiatives, supports their numerous projects and is happy to provide active advice and assistance. Voith was thus immediately won over by the efforts of the E-Motion Racing Team of Aalen University. "The unique feature of this student initiative is that students from a wide variety of specialist areas cooperate towards a joint goal, driven by a mutual passion. The entire racing car is designed and later on also constructed by the students, therefore even the smallest bit of progress is a highlight and a fantastic learning experience for the students. We really welcome and appreciate this extra-curricular commitment." (Quote: Team Employer Branding & HR Communications).

Not too long ago, the SWR broadcasting station granted us a peek over the shoulder of the E-Motion Racing Team. The SWR visited the student initiative in their workshop at Aalen University and also at the race track. Here is the full-length video: Zum Video
