The team was ranked among the top three even in the previous concept competition. The wind turbines designed and constructed in the first phase were tested in the form of self-constructed prototypes in the second phase on July 25.
The AnemoTEC team entered the concept phase in the winter semester with an advancement of the Ott hydrometric vane. In January 2014, the students were able to convince the panel with their concepts, which had been developed down to the finest detail, and were ranked among the top three. The team then had until July 25, 2014 to produce their prototypes with the help of the university. The final assembly of the micro wind turbine took place just two weeks before the competition. On July 25, 2014, from 10 to 11 o'clock, the students' prototype was then put through its paces in the wind tunnel of the Training and Development Institute ISTN at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT). In addition to this criterion, the prototype was also evaluated by a panel of representatives from business and research. The team had to beat seven competitors: the Energypack, the Windzip and Invento team from KIT, the PET and the Savonius teams from the University of Offenburg and the Vibravento team from Bielefeld Technical College. Once all tests were complete, the final presentations took place at 17:30 hrs in the Audimax at KIT. The Voith students took 2nd place with their micro wind turbine.
The turbine now stands on the 1st floor of Dual University Heidenheim (DHBW) and can be viewed during normal opening hours.
