Girls' Day at Voith
Girls Forging Ahead in Engineering
As part of Germany's nationwide Girls'Day, Voith welcomed a total of 60 young ladies from Heidenheim schools in its training center on Thursday the 25th of May 2013. The girls were comprehensively informed about technical careers and had the opportunity to try out their practical skills on eight different work stations. Girls’Day is Germany's most important career orientation project with the aim to get girls interested in technical professions.
Voith has been participating in the nationwide program since 2002 and introduced the young visitors to a range of technical apprenticeships. This year, the pupils were able to learn in detail what it means to sign up for a traineeship as industrial mechanic, metal cutting machine operator, mecha-tronics technician or technical product designer.
Quotation of a school student:
„I liked the Girls' Day very much, since I had the chance to get a taste of different technical jobs. Especially the job of an industrial mechanic inspired me due to the fact that this job is very multisided.“

Divided into small groups and guided by Voith apprentices, the sixth and seventh formers wired dimmer lights, built pneumatic switching systems and designed components in 3D with CAD software. The girls also had a go at the CNC machine, where they milled heart pendants to take home as souvenirs.
