Safe and Efficient - with RailPacks to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil
The two vehicle types are each driven by two Voith DIWAPacks. Due to its high efficiency and inherent reliability, the DIWAPack is the ideal drive system for light railcars. In order to adapt it to rail applications, Voith has supplemented the proven DIWA 884.5 transmission by an integrated reversing gear. As a result, the positive characteristics of the DIWA transmission come into effect at all speeds and in both driving directions.
Apart from the DIWARail transmission, the DIWAPack consists of cardan shafts, an underfloor cooling system, the exhaust system, a synchronous generator and a hydrostatic system. A 6-cylinder MAN engine rated at 338 kW (460 HP) provides the necessary drive power and allows maximum speeds of 120 km/h. All components are combined into a drive system in a single carrier frame including all tubes and pipes. The Voith delivery scope also covers Scharfenberg semi-automatic couplers and gear units.
The expansion of commuter routes in its megacities is very important for Brazil - and not only because the country hosts the 2014 Soccer World Cup. This is underlined by the fact that the first light railcars from Bom Sinal with Voith technology were commissioned in the presence of Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff.
