Voith Drive Components at Busworld in Istanbul

From 24 to 27 April, Voith presents efficient and innovative drive components for buses and coaches at Busworld in Istanbul (Hall 1, Booth D50) under the motto "Efficiency on the Road." In focus are the DIWA.6 automatic transmission, Voith Air Compressors and the Aquatarder SWR (Secondary Water Retarder).
Together with the DIWA Efficiency Package, the new DIWA.6 automatic transmission saves another five percent fuel compared with its predecessor. Apart from the topography-dependent gear shifting program SensoTop, this is also made possible by the need-based reduction of the operating pressure and an intelligent startup management, which avoids starting against the active service brake. The optimized automatic neutral shift (ANS) can decouple the transmission from the engine for longer, which also saves fuel.

The DIWA Efficiency Package was launched with the introduction of the Euro 6 exhaust gas norm in Europe 2014. Among the operators that have already decided in favor of vehicles with DIWA.6 are Wiener Linien and the Belgian transport companies SRWT (Société Régionale Wallonne du Transport), VVM-De Lijn and MIVB.

A large number of transport operators in Turkey also count on the reliable and economical DIWA transmission. Voith has recently delivered the 1000th Voith DIWA.5 automatic transmission for the Turkish vehicle manufacturer Otokar, which will enter service at the Istanbul transport company IETT.

Voith Air Compressors Are Standard Equipment in Euro 6 Vehicles
Voith will also show its two-stage 2- and 3-cylinder air compressors. The exhibition stand will feature versions for the Mercedes Euro 6-engines OM 471, OM 473 and OM 936, which are standard equipment in citybuses and coaches. Voith air compressors stand out by high energy efficiency. Advantages are low temperature levels, which prevent oil coking, as well as weight-saving full aluminum constructions. Euro 3- to Euro 5-vehicles can also be retrofitted with two-stage air compressors. Since 2008, 250 Mercedes-Benz CapaCity vehicles with the currently largest air compressor, the LP 700, are in service in the demanding Bus Rapid Transit-System Metrobüs in Istanbul. Mercedes-Benz Türk already fits its Conecto bus series with Voith air compressors as standard equipment.

Aquatarder SWR from Voith
Voith also exhibits the Aquatarder SWR at Busworld 2014. The SWR works with the cooling agent of the engine as operating medium. Compared with oil retarders, the SWR is maintenance-free, saves operators up to 12 liters of oil per year and does not require waste oil disposal. Due to its extremely compact design, it needs 50 percent less installation space and it is 33 kilograms lighter. The SWR is thus an asset in safety, economy and for the environment.

Operators whose vehicles are fitted with SWR can rely on 30 percent more continuous braking power and the high availability of this modern braking component. With the SWR, brake dust emissions for buses are reduced by up to 80 percent.

The advantages of the SWR have already been awarded twice: the SWR received the ECW Innovation Label Award at Busworld in Kortrijk 2013 and the European Transport Prize 2012 for Sustainability. In Turkey the first Setra vehicles with the Voith Aquatarder SWR have been in service since November 2013.
