Voith at bauma 2016:
Efficiency and innovation for mining and mineral processing

From April 11 to 17, 2016 Voith presents its efficient and innovative components for mining and mineral processing at the construction trade fair bauma 2016 in Munich. Voith exhibits its new Coupling Monitoring System CMS 310, the SlipSet coupling, the Voith TurboBelt Hese Pulley, a TVVS Fluid Coupling and a highly flexible coupling type H in hall C2, booth 239.

Voith Torque Limiting Couplings: SlipSet and CMS 310

SafeSet torque limiting couplings prevent machine damage in high value rotating equipment, such as steel mills, tunnel drilling machines, crushers and many more. Working like a mechanical fuse in the driveline, it protects the system from costly breakdowns.

SlipSet is based on the same technology as the SafeSet coupling, but with the ability to instantly slip instead of release in the event of a torque overload. The SlipSet units are very compact and can be installed in areas with a minimum of space, to ensure the most optimal position in a drive line.

The new CMS 310 is the latest generation of Voith Coupling Monitoring Systems. It is built on a PLC based platform, which makes supervision and monitoring of torque limiting couplings possible in addition to release detection as well as slip detection. The control unit continuously calculates and sends signals into a monitored supervision system indicating the current slip angle. The status information can be used to immediately identify any need for action; as a stand-alone solution or integrated in already existing monitoring systems.

Other benefits of the CMS 310 include that it is easy to setup, upgradable and scalable; it is based on industry standard components and can easily be integrated in existing systems via the Profibus connection.

Voith TurboBelt Hese Pulley

Key components for belt conveyors in mining
Voith TurboBelt Hese Pulley

The Voith TurboBelt Hese Pulleys are technically and economically optimized belt conveyor pulleys that allow for a long product life cycle. Providing excellent running characteristics under extreme conditions such as heat, cold or humidity and tolerating heavy duty, they have a service life of up to ten years. Voith offers customized pulleys for different applications such as drive pulleys, tail pulleys, bend pulleys and more for high system availability.

Pulleys play a key role in ensuring conveyor system efficiency. To avoid failures that can lead to prolonged downtimes and loss of production, Voith offers highly efficient engineered pulleys designed to customer specifications for maximum reliability and performance. For high-stress applications, finite element method (FEM) calculations are performed during the design stage. In manufacturing, high-quality parts and materials – as well as a special T-bottom design that places welds away from high stress zones – ensure a long and reliable product lifetime.

TVVS Turbokupplung

TVVS Fluid Coupling

The showcased Controlled-Fill Fluid Coupling model, type TVVS, is predominantly used in belt conveyor drives. These types of couplings are used to ensure smooth start-up, protect the drive against overload and dampen torsional vibration, thus preventing unplanned downtimes and increasing the lifetime of drives.

The Voith fluid couplings require minimum maintenance, are well suited for use in extreme environments and completely insensitive to harsh conditions like dust, dirt and humidity. Voith further offers fluid couplings with water as operating medium (type TWVVS) especially for potentially explosive atmospheres or couplings with outer casing made of spheroidal cast iron (type TUVVS) for use in operations with relevant material requirements.

Voith is also engineering partner for customer-specific drive solutions in new-build and modernization projects.

Hochelastische Kupplung Typ H

Highly flexible coupling type H

The highly flexible coupling type H is a torsional vibration damper especially well-suited for construction vehicles with torque converter gear units. It features two damping systems working in parallel: a spring-mass system and a hydraulic damping system. The coupling protects the driveline against torque shocks and increases the lifetime of all connected components. Operators benefit from a higher productivity and profitability of their vehicles.

The highly flexible coupling type H is a modern torsional vibration damper which reacts multi-functionally to complex vibration scenarios. It automatically recognizes the difference between the need for vibration damping and the need for vibration isolation during driving. To do this the coupling utilizes the hydraulic operating principle. The coupling is designed to be temperature resistant, space saving and maintenance free.
