Prime Cup

On 11 and 12 July 2013 the nationwide final of PrimeCup took place in Hamburg. Thanks to their sustainable strategic concept, the Voith students managed to reach place three in the finals.

Spotlight on Sustainability

The business game contest PrimeCup is open to students from all over Germany giving them an opportunity to act as the management board of a stock market-listed company and compete against other company teams. At this year's finals, the teams took over the management of a fictitious solar cell manufacturer. Sustainability was the guiding principle throughout the contest.

On the first day of the business game the students were greeted at the Unilever headquarters situated at the river Elbe with the slogan "Hamburch is ken Doarf" (Hamburg is not a village).

The 12 teams were divided into three markets, which initially only competed on their own turf. After a successful start of the Voith team consisting of Franziska Bauer, Volker Kampf, Madeline Möbius, Moritz Möhlenkamp and Robert Oßwald in phase 1, the real fight for market leadership began. "When we realized on Thursday night that we were no longer in first place after three completed phases, we included a few nightshifts with laptops and calculators," said Moritz Möhlenkamp. On Friday, the contest continued into phase five, where the final share price was the decisive criterion for the individual companies.

Upon completion of all phases, each team had to stage a press conference for its company where the corporate sustainability report was presented.

Robert Oßwald (DHBW-Student):

„Thanks to the sustainability issue, this discipline was a home game for us Voithians, and consequently we had the jury at our feet at the end of our presentation," stated Robert Oßwald. Owing to its long-term concept, the team qualified for the final between the three market winners."

Franziska Bauer (DHBW-Studentin):

„Unfortunately, in the final investors' conference, the jury was won over by the profit-oriented key figures of the low-price manufacturer and the winning team. As a result, they lost sight of our ingenious sustainability concept."

In the end, the Voith team finished in third place at the business game, which had been entered by over 600 teams with more than 3,600 participants from all over Germany.
