The majority of the new Voithians - a total of twelve young men - will embark on an apprenticeship as industrial mechanics. The other apprentices are distributed across the broad range of jobs in various commercial and industrial-technical sectors, for example as mechatronics technicians, construction mechanics or industrial administrators.
On their first day at work, the new apprentices and their parents were welcomed in the new Voith Training Center by Thomas Born, Senior Vice President of Voith Dienstleistungen und Grundstücks GmbH & Co. KG: "You are a special apprentice generation for Voith. Because you are the first generation that starts their training here in this new Voith Training Center. And you are the generation that - in 2017 - when Voith is celebrating its 150th anniversary, will complete its training. It is my personal goal to see that your group will enter the company history as the generation of apprentices with the best results. I will make every effort that we reach this goal jointly, and I look forward to the next three years."
The new Voith apprentices also stand out by another special feature: they are the first group to be trained right from the start on the basis of the new comprehensive Voith training concept, which covers both technical and general knowledge subjects. This means that the apprentices will be integrated in real projects from their first year - both in the workshop and in the office. Voith also supplements the curriculum of the vocational schools with additional in-house lessons and own internal courses and seminars on interdisciplinary subjects. Furthermore, the Voith apprentices can attend computer and exam preparation courses in line with their individual requirements.
"We offer young people a training program on a high level. Our young talents should be able to develop professionally, but also personally - to become responsible, independently working and committed employees," says Regine Rendle, Training Manager for commercial apprenticeships at Voith in Heidenheim. "For our company, the training of young people is of central importance. Qualified and motivated junior employees are a prerequisite for the successful future of Voith."
The high quality of this training concept is reflected in the exam results of the Voith apprentices: they regularly finish with above-average results at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Voith offers the dual training scheme based on the German model also at its locations in Brazil and China. Some years ago, Voith actually developed its own training concept in cooperation with national educational establishment training institutions in Brazil. On the basis of this concept, Voith has so far trained over 2,300 skilled employees in Brazil. At its location in Kunshan, China, Voith officially opened the Voith China Training Center this year. This center for training and further education is the company's largest training facility outside Germany.
The search for apprentices for the year 2015 is already in full swing at Voith in Heidenheim. The closing date for the forthcoming training year is 30 September 2014.
