Tell us more about your internship

I am currently on traineeship at Voith GmbH in Heidenheim/Brenz in the field of Supply Chain Management. The main focus of my internship is on order planning.

How did you come across this internship?

Due to my technical background, I was already familiar with Voith and products such as the RailPack. For personal reasons I wanted to do my internship with an industrial employer, preferably a plant Engineering company, in the Ulm area. I therefore looked at the Voith Careers page for vacancies and sent an application. The reply came relatively quickly and I was invited for a personal interview. The get-to-know talk has convinced me of the company and the internship. During our talk it emerged that the vacancy fits in perfectly with my profile and my interests. Another positive fact was that the HR-Department was very accommodating regarding the start of my internship, allowing me to commence my training at the date of my choice.

What are your responsibilities?

I mainly support the employees in their operative day-to-day activities. The two main subjects I'm working on are production planning and also the extended workbench. My specific task in production panning is the on-time scheduling of production and planned orders. This includes daily checks of the production capacities. Should there be any foreseeable bottleneck, production orders are re-allocated to available machine capacities. In the event of material shortages I ask for the repositioning of lower Level production stages via our materials manager.

Regarding the extended workbench, my task is filing orders for individual operating steps, entering order confirmations and delivery dates as well as following up these items if they have not been confirmed yet.

A strategic task is the creation of key figures. I perform evaluations on »Missing Parts« or »Arrears for Production Segments«. I have also programmed an evaluation mode in Excel, which shows the capacity utilization of machines. This enables the departments to make prognoses and prepare for events such as bottlenecks. At the moment I am writing a directive for future interns, because I am the first intern in this department. The directive describes the tasks of the intern and outlines the required transactions for SAP R/3.

How closely are your current activities related to what you have learned during your studies?

A great deal of what I learned at university also came up during my internship. I already had some theoretical knowledge of areas such as logistics planning, value stream and material flow and was now finally able to establish some practical relevance. At the same time I was also able to learn many new things and expand my capabilities.

Do you get paid for your internship?

Yes.

Does your internship come up to your expectations?

Yes, to a large degree. I would have liked to work more intensively on strategic tasks, but overall I am very happy with my internship and hope to be able to work with Voith again, for example for my Bachelor dissertation.

Have you completed other internships?

This is my first internship within the framework of my studies. I am considering another internship abroad prior to my Bachelor dissertation - preferably in an English-speaking country and again in logistics planning.

Many thanks for the interview!
